sumwerk

A ChartMogul alternative for companies that bill through Stripe

ChartMogul is the best known subscription analytics product and has grown into a CRM. sumwerk does one billing system, Stripe, and puts its effort into numbers you can trace back to the Stripe invoice or event behind them. Which one fits depends mostly on where you bill.

What this page says about ChartMogul comes from their own public pages, read on September 21, 2026 and listed below. Something out of date? Tell us and we correct it.

The short answer

Choose sumwerk if

  • All your subscriptions are in Stripe
  • You want every MRR movement to name the Stripe invoice or event it came from, and a daily check against Stripe's own invoices
  • A month that was reported should not change without a dated note that says why
  • You want leads, trials, notes, tasks and at-risk rules next to the revenue, and an API for all of it

Choose ChartMogul if

  • You bill through several systems (Chargebee, Paddle, app stores) and need them in one place
  • You want a sales pipeline with opportunities and forecasting inside the same tool
  • You want a long-established vendor with a large ecosystem of integrations

Where ChartMogul is stronger

  • More billing systems. If part of your revenue is not in Stripe, sumwerk cannot show it.
  • A sales pipeline: opportunities, stages and forecasting. sumwerk has tasks, notes and sequences, and no pipeline.
  • Maturity. ChartMogul has been on the market for more than a decade; sumwerk is new.

What sumwerk does differently

MRR from subscription state, not from invoices

A plan change in the middle of a billing period produces a prorated invoice. Read off invoices, that becomes a spike and a dip; read off the subscription, it is one expansion on the day it happened. sumwerk uses the subscription and keeps invoices as evidence and as an independent check.

Numbers that carry their proof

Every movement links to the Stripe invoice or event behind it, a daily check compares every subscription with Stripe's own invoice, and a closed month that changes later gets a restatement with its reason. When finance asks why March is different, the answer has a date and a customer name.

Built for one billing system

Doing only Stripe means Stripe's details are handled instead of averaged away: prices in several currencies, discounts that end, schedules, pauses, several Stripe customers that are one company.

Moving from ChartMogul

sumwerk imports from ChartMogul through their API with a read-only key: customers with all their ids, owners, tags, custom attributes, contacts, notes, call logs and tasks. Revenue is not imported, it is computed from Stripe. What could not be imported is listed with the reason and can be fixed and imported again. You can run both side by side for as long as you like.

How the import works

Questions

Do the two show the same MRR?
Close, not identical. Tools that read the same Stripe account usually differ by a few percent, because they decide differently about prorations, trials, past-due subscriptions, discounts and exchange rates. sumwerk writes its rules down and shows, per customer, where a difference comes from.
Can I keep ChartMogul while I try sumwerk?
Yes. sumwerk connects to Stripe with a restricted, read-only key and changes nothing there or in ChartMogul.
Does sumwerk have opportunities and forecasting?
No. It has customers, contacts, notes, calls, tasks, automations and email sequences.

Connect Stripe and check your own numbers

A restricted, read-only key is all it takes. The first import runs in a few minutes; every number you see opens into the customers and Stripe references behind it.
